I saw Hugo when it first came out... (At my favorite Ziegfeld Theater!)
Loved it's 1930's style. Many of it's visuals were rich and gorgeous.
Respected that it didn't over do the 3D stuff... (Though I still find the 3D glasses somewhat uncomfortable and restrictive).
Respectable.
But: Waaaaay tooooo looooong! (And therefore self indulgent).
Been a few weeks, and there's nothing about it that sticks with me...
As a friend remarked, "It could have been really great". So, we were in agreement that it was lacking... Something.
Lacking what? Plot, mostly. Or something.
Just left kind of disappointed...
It missed it's mark.

I've just seen Warhorse, beautifully shot by Spielberg, but I'm not really into horses and so didn't think so much of it. Then I saw the Artist, which I found utterly tedious, except for the little doggie !
I would still like to see it. Surprisingly, it's not showing at many movie theaters around here. I thought all those Oscar nods would have increased the number of screenings....
Thanks for the review. I'll cross "Hugo" off my list. Can't get excited about seeing "The Artist" in a theater (people are so rude) but I look forward to watching it in the privacy of my own home.
